Sitting in the bathtub, his thoughts stray into darker corners that he doesn’t allow them into when in the public eye. Across the bathroom, propped up on the toilet lid, his phone plays a video of Aine’s last birthday they celebrated together and the smile on his face is enough for Reiji to duck his head beneath the water.
Holding his breath, he tries the third time that evening to force an inhale but instinct overpowers intention and he surfaces with a gasp.
His throat is hoarse from so many attempts.
He laughs.
