Summary: After running reconnaissance for a possible treasure hunt in the Lands of Ice, Vyse and his beau settle down on the deck of Claudia for a sweet treat that Vyse has never tasted before.

Snowflakes waft around on the breeze and blow into Vyse's hair, clinging in places and leaving a touch of sparkle behind that Gilder stops to admire momentarily before coming up behind the kid. Vyse stiffens as Gilder's hands fall heavily upon his shoulders, but he turns to look at the older man with that darling, crooked smile that Gilder has also come to love.

"Sure you don't wanna head for the bridge?" offers Gilder yet again, leaning down to catch Vyse's lips in a warm, welcome kiss. "You're shivering, darling."

Vyse laughs and brushes him off with a tap against his nose. "I'm fine," he chides him, "and we have to wait for the others to return, don't we?"

Sighing, Gilder removes his overcoat and drapes it over Vyse's shoulders instead. Just as Vyse tries to protest, Gilder silences him with another lingering kiss on the lips. He pulls away with a wry smile. "I can be just as stubbornly righteous as you, so don't even bother."

The possibility of treasure in the tomb they discovered a year or so past is what brought them here, Gilder knows, and Vyse's love of exploring depths unknown to him is unquenchable and contagious. Advances in Valuan technology have enabled them to open the tomb at last, providing them with an insight into Galcian culture at long last. The Mages of the Purple Moon are lost to the annals of History and Time, so both Vyse and Gilder understand the significance of this expedition.

If only it weren't so damned cold, Gilder thinks with a shudder.

"Are you sure you don't want to return to the bridge with me?" he asks Vyse again, knowing full well he'd be rejected yet again. "It's freezing out here and I don't want you to catch something."

"Well," Vyse says thoughtfully, tilting his head a little, "you could bring some blankets and something warm to drink? That would help."

Unable to deny Vyse anything, Gilder acquiesces with another rueful smile. "Your wish is my command."

Vyse just laughs and beams back at him, knowing full well that he has Gilder wrapped around his little finger (although he doesn't use it to his advantage nearly as much as Gilder would.)

Gilder goes about his task with more celerity than even he is used to, eager to please and make Vyse as comfortable as possible. A few fluffy blankets from a deck box on the bridge will serve his needs nicely, he thinks, but only one blanket would mean the inevitability of sharing it. Grinning, he stuffs all but one back into the box and turns to the small store of foodstuffs and drinks lining the wall.

"Huh," he mutters and pulls a can from the shelf. "Haven't had this in a while."

A few moments later, Vyse looks over his shoulder at the sound of footsteps thumping along the planks of the Claudia. The sight of the single blanket twists his stomach into knots because of the implications, but the aroma carried on the wind from the steaming mugs Gilder has in hand is new to him.

"Sit down," Gilder bids him and throws the blanket around them, huddling close to Vyse. "Here."

Glancing between his beau and the mug in his hands, Vyse hums a little, "This is probably a silly question, but..." He takes a whiff of his drink and holds it up to Gilder. "What is this?"

Gilder blinks a few times with disbelief. "You've never had cocoa before?"

"Cocoa..." Vyse repeats to himself. "It sounds familiar."

"Found from a bean grown in Ixa' Taka. Add it to hot milk and you get this," Gilder explains and pulls Vyse into his lap. "Hot cocoa, see?"

Vyse squirms and shifts until he's comfortable in Gilder's lap, taking another inhale of the cocoa. "It smells great."

"It tastes great, too," supplies Gilder, taking a sip of his own cocoa afterwards. "Try it."

Blowing on his cocoa, Vyse leans down to take a little sip from his mug. Gilder leans down far enough to catch the doe-eyed expression that follows after and it sends a warm jolt straight to his abdomen because he's seen that cute expression in places far more intimate than the deck of the Claudia. Vyse takes another larger swig next and almost burns his tongue, coughing and pulling away from his mug with a little wince.

"Careful now," Gilder warns him and chuckles. "It's called 'hot cocoa' for a reason."

Vyse just leers weakly at him with his tongue peeking out between his teeth. "Cute, Gilder. Cute."

"You are," Gilder whispers into his ear and leans down to snatch Vyse's tongue with his own teeth, but Vyse deftly reels it in before he can do so. "Now, come on, is that fair play?"

Smirking, Vyse leans back against Gilder's chest and blows steam from the top of his mug again. "You'll have your chance to warm up later, big guy. Just be patient."

"Little devil," Gilder hisses into his ear and nips at it instead, earning a little yelp for his efforts. "I'll wait, but I won't go easy on you just because you decided to get cute with me."

"Good," Vyse chirps and turns a little to stroke Gilder's cheek. "I like it a little rough."
